Mr. McKinley Hunter, 91, of the Kellumtown Community, Hubert, NC, died June 30, 2017 at his residence. Funeral services will be held 11:00 a.m. July 8, 2017 at Marshall Chapel Missionary Baptist Church, with Reverend William C. Jones as eulogist. Burial will follow in the Kellumtown Community Cemetery, Hubert, NC.
Visitation will be held from 6pm to 8pm, July 7, 2017 in the chapel of Saunders Funeral Home, 210 Bell Fork Road, Jacksonville, NC.
Mr. Hunter served his country dutifully as a member of the United States Army from 1947 to 1952, receiving his Purple Heart on May 26, 1951, a veteran of World War II. Upon receiving a honorable discharge, he was employed as a heavy equipment specialist aboard Camp Lejeune Military Installation.
He was a member of Marshall Chapel Missionary Baptist Church and served faithfully as a member of the Usher's Ministry. He was a pillar of the Kellumtown Community and was an avid fisherman and gardener. His caring and loving attitude afforded him to share his blessings with members of the community and surrounding areas. He will be sorely missed in the home and community.
He is survived by his sons, O'neal Chadwick of the home, and Earl Chadwick, Baltimore, MD; daughters, Marion Brown, Josephine Chadwick, and Maxine Chadwick, all of the home and LaVonne Gamble, Fredricksburg, VA; thirteen grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. He also leaves a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.
