James L. Doggette, Jr.

February 8, 1939 ~ June 25, 2018 (age 79)

Jacksonville – MSGT (Ret) James L. Doggette, Jr., also known as "Disco Jim," 79, of Jacksonville entered into eternal rest Monday, June 26, 2018 at Lower Cape Fear Hospice in Wilmington. 

Funeral service will be held 12pm, Saturday, June 30, 2018 at First Baptist Church of Belgrade. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service.  Interment will be held 10am, Tuesday, July 3, 2018 at Coastal Carolina Veteran's Cemetery.  

On December 3 1961, James entered the Marine Corps at Paris Island, South Carolina graduating; February 22, 1962.  During his enlistment, he was stationed at Keneohe, Hawaii, MCAS El Toro, California, MCAS Quantico, Virginia, Vietnam, MCAS Cherry Point NC, Naval Air Station Norfolk Virginia, MCAS Iwakuni, Japan (2 tours), and MCAS New River, Jacksonville, NC.  James retired from the USMC on May 23, 1986.  He also worked 20 years as a Disc Jockey, known as “Disco Jim”.  He played for schools, social clubs, wedding receptions and other events.

James was affiliated with the following organizations: Life Member of the Montford Point Marines, DAV #16, VFW Post #7315, and Blooming Light #132, Norfolk, VA.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his daughter Gina V. Doggette.

James leaves to cherish his memories, his wife and the love of his life, Martha R. Mattocks Doggette of Jacksonville, NC; his son, Victor J. Doggette of New York; step-daughter, Hope Sidbury of Maysville, NC; 2 step-grandchildren, Shirley Mattocks of Maysville, NC and Shaniece Mattocks of Hubert, NC; 2 great grandchildren, Toriana and Tianna Mattocks; Mother-in-Law, Hattie Mattocks; Sisters-in-Law, Arnita Brown (Edwin), Fay Simmons (Van), Barbara Montford; Brother-in-Law, Kenneth Mattocks; Aunts-in-Law, Ann Mattocks, Christine Mattocks, Laura King, Doris Mack; Uncle-in-Law, Jerry Mattocks (Carolyn); Special cousins, Ed Grimes of Atlanta, Georgia, David Grimes of Chattanooga, Tennessee; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

In lieu of flowers, please make donations to First Baptist Church of Belgrade, located at 561 Spring Hill Road, Belgrade, NC.
