James Eldridge Richardson, 76, of Jacksonville died January 24, 2018 at Vidant Medical Center in Greenville, NC.
Rich, known by many, was born and raised in St. Louis, MO. He was preceded in death by his father, James Richardson, Sr.; mother, Juliette Richardson; brothers, Leonard and Lawrence Richardson; sister, Marlene Taylor.
He joined the United States Marine Corps in 1958 and served his country honorably. Rich was the first African American Drum Major in the USMC.
Rich is survived by his wife, LaTanya Richardson; eleven children, Pamela Richardson, James "Jimmy" Richardson, Rhonda Richardson, Natalie Evans, Michael Richardson, DeWanye Richardson, Larrell Chappell, Reginald Richardson, Alisa Bowman, Shawn Richardson, and LaShaunda Sample; twenty three grandchildren, nine great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, one "grand dog," Sophie, and a host of friends.
Homegoing services will be held 12pm, Saturday, February 3, 2018 at Abundant Life International Baptist Cathedral, 1518 Gumbranch Rd. Viewing will be held one hour prior to the service. Interment will be held 12pm, Monday, February 5, 2018 at Coastal Carolina Veteran's Cemetery.
