Mary Ann Henderson (Spencer) of Tulsa, Oklahoma crossed over into eternity at the Palmetto Health Heart Hospital in Columbia, South Carolina on September 21st at the age of 71.
Funeral service will be held 1pm Saturday, September 29, 2018 at New Hope Holy Church. A visitation will be held one hour prior to the service.
Mary is survived by Steve Henderson with whom she has three children: daughters Yvette (Darnell) Christian, Shawmeen Henderson; son Richard (Anna) Henderson; granddaughters Jasmeen Tensley, Jacqueline Tensley, Yvonne (Dquan) Doyle, Khaliah Williams, Bryanna Jones; grandsons Timothy Tensley Jr., Mikail Christian, Kendrick Jordan II; great-granddaughters Ayana Lopez, Faith Doyle; great-grandsons Jeremiah Doyle, Nathaniel Williams; brothers Johnnie Spencer Jr, Richard (Contessa) Spencer; sister-in-law Vivian (Cleveland) Sewell, brother-in-law Jesse (Bobbi) Humphrey and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family and friends. Mary is preceded in death by parents Mary Spencer, Johnnie (Darlene) Spencer, Sr and sister-aunt Betty Lou Guilford.
Mary was born on July 29, 1947 in Washington, North Carolina. She graduated from Georgetown High School in 1965. After moving to Youngstown, Ohio, Mary worked at multiple city related positions from city attorneys, council men to city judges. She also worked with the NAACP and Northeast Ohio Correctional Center. Her greatest joy was singing praises to our Lord Jesus Christ with choirs from Zion Hill Baptist Church, World Fellowship Church and Refiner's Fire International Ministries.
In Lieu of flowers, the family ask that donations be made to the American Heart Association or the American Diabetes Association.
